My family got introduced to Score A in late 2008. Unfortunately I lost a few months before fully appreciating the powerful and useful tool that Score A was.
This year, I have focussed only on my son. My daughter, Nana who is in Form 2 now shall be sitting for her PMR in 2010. And Ain would be sitting for her UPSR in 2011. I have agreed with Nana that “her turn” will come from the beginning of the 2009 school holidays onwards.
My son has completed the eTopics for Form 3, a little ahead of the progress in school. On the 21 May 09, he started on the eAssessments for Form 3. He shall be doing at least 4 subjects a day, with all 6 subjects per day during the school holidays starting from 30th May – 14 June 09. Then it is back to 4 subjects a day until the end of June 09.
My son will be allowed to make references to any of his revision books whilst he is doing these eAssessments.
From the 1st July – 30th September 09, my son will be working on the PMR past year questions from 1993 – 2008, a total of 16 years, or about 5 years of questions per month. My son and I are not sure how the timing of this would be, but if there are gaps, he can look at doing further eAssessments or eTrial Exams.
Come 6th October 09, Insya’Allah, my son should be as prepared as we can be. After that it shall be in the good hands of the All Mighty.

Some plans are easily understood….
The compensation plan of a MLM company is a key factor considered by potential signups. It is assumed and agreed that it would be rarely that a plan is fully understood by a prospect. However, there must be at least a basic understanding of the plan and its reward structure.
At the two ends of the mind boggling variety of plans would be those that:
a) Reward the distributor very richly, paying huge commissions on the sales of products whose value may not be that easily determinable, and at the other end
b) Reward the distributor reasonably, and a product that provides clear value to the end user
Others may be a little or lot more complicated.
Plans of the (a) type motivate the distributors to push the products hard. Often to their near and dear. My personal feeling is that rarely would this last. I am convinced that no sustainable business can be built up using a plan like this.
The Plan (b) approach is what I think has business sense. No business can go on for long without providing value. And if value is provided, there should be sufficient repeat sales to keep the business flourishing.
Score A and the compensation plan falls into the (b) category. I can see, and can explain the value that is being provided to a potential distributor very easily.
The compensation plan is one thing that all potential distributors should look at carefully before making any decision to join any MLM opportunity. Yes, it may seem a little intimidating, but if the basics cannot be explained and understood, then you’ll have a good idea on how it would be difficult for you to spread on the message!

Orang yang bergabung usahaniaga MLM untuk berbagai alasan. Sebagai ahli MLM, penting bagi kami untuk mengenali jenis orang yang paling mungkin untuk mendaftar dengan kami. Lebih penting lagi kepada yang mungkin akan menjadi pemimpin kumpulan kami di masa depan.
Dua jenis utama calon anggota kumpulan itu adalah:-
a) Mencari peluang usaha untuk meningkatkan pendapatan
Ini mencakup beberapa orang dengan tingkat kebebasan waktu tetapi tidak cukup wang. Terutama golongan pekerja dipejabat 9pagi – 5petang. Mereka memiliki pendapatan cukup stabil, namun hanya mampu memenuhi komitmen kewangan merekayang terhad.

Orang-orang ini dengan semangat dan komitmen yang tinggi untuk meningkatkan pendapatan mereka adalah orang yang paling penting dalam membangun sebuah usahaniaga besar. Tidak semua bermula sebagai pemimpin, seorang pemimpin tidak dilahirkan, tetapi mereka diasuh untuk menjadi pemimpin.
b) Barangan Pengguna
Mereka adalah orang-orang yang seperti produk yang sedang dipasarkan. Mereka tidak memiliki minat awal dalam pemasaran produk dan membangun perniagaan.
Banyak dari anggota kumpulan kami bermula sebagai pengguna yang hanya ingin merasakan munafaat produk kepada mereka. Setelah mereka telah bersama-sama berkongsi pengtahuan dengan orang-orang yang mereka kenali, mereka mulai membangun sebuah usaha walaupun itu bukan tujuannua. Inilah adalah tentang pemasaran secara lisan.
Dua kategori ini yang tidak saling eksklusif. Banyak orang yang tergolong dalam (a) dan (b).
Dalam masa kegawatan ekonomi dan ramai kehilangan pekerjaan, ramai orang termasuk dalam kategori pertama. Saya yakin kita akan bertemu dengan ramai orang yang sehari-hari yang memikirkan bagaimana caranya untuk meningkatkan pendapatan mereka.
Dan apabila kita memiliki sebuah produk yang mampu melepasi kemelesetan ekonomi, produk yang sangat diinginikan oleh hampir setiap ibubapa untuk anak-anak sekolah dengan harga yang kompetitif, maka kita memiliki potensi dan masa depan yang besar dari kelompok (b) juga.
Pendekatan yang berbeza kita harus ambil apabila bertemu prospek dari dua kategori yang berbeda. Golongan (b) mungkin lebih khuatir dan ragu jika kita mengambil pendekatan yang lebih sesuai untuk golongan (a) dan begitu jua sebaliknya.

Last Friday, we talked about the first pillar of a Network Marketing Business, i.e. Networking. Today, let’s look at the 2nd Pillar, Marketing.
2 definitions of marketing are provided here.
a) The Chartered Institute of Marketing defines marketing as ‘The management process responsible for identifying, anticipating and satisfying customer requirements profitably’
b) Philip Kotler defines marketing as ‘satisfying needs and wants through an exchange process’
The above two definitions are from people of great authority on the subject.
As a layman, however, can we agree that Marketing is a process of identifying, anticipating and satisfying or meeting needs and wants through an exchange process.
As a MLMer, we have signed up as a distributor for a product. I am, of course, assuming that we signed up because we felt that the product or service genuinely meets a compelling need.
I signed up for Score A, because of my conviction that it is a fantastic product that offers great value to parents who want to see their children get exam ready and do well in the Malaysian school exams.
And now as a MLMer, just how do we go about marketing the product or service that we are distributing?
i) It is a tremendous advantage if we are ourselves using the product and can say with conviction the good that it has and is doing for us. Still many of us join a MLM for the business opportunity. We may not be using the product, but we are still convinced that the product offers fantastic value.
ii) Take the case of us using the product. In the case of Score A, I am using the product to better prepare my children for their school exams. I just keep my eyes and ears open for anyone in my Network who may have the same desire as I in improving their children’s school grades. And I mention that I am using Score A to great benefit. That’s all.
iii) No need to push, no need to cajole. If the prospect or friend is interested, they will by themselves seek more information. If they don’t, well, we know they are losing out.
iv) If they are members of our Network, they will open up and tell us their concerns. If they detect any insincerity in us, poof! off they go.
v) For those who are not using the product, they should have solid testimonials on hand. Score A, for example, has more than its fair share.
vi) And we repeat the process.
vii) That’s it. We have identified, anticipated and offered to satisfy a need. The rest is up to the potential customer.
viii) For those prospects who are looking at the business opportunity side of the equation, first they have to be convinced that the product or service meets a compelling need. Then they have to be convinced that it offers great value. Only then can they see the business opportunity.
ix) More of our customers would statistically be users as opposed to wanting to take it on as a business. I have written about this here.
We just have to keep repeating this process. The major stumbling block is the number of rejections that we get. This is usually enough to break our spirit and get us to forget about this whole thing.
I have written about this in my earlier articles on our great aversion to rejection. I think, this is the single biggest factor why people give up on MLM.
For those who fear rejection, just think about the number of advertisements you look at and don’t even read. Well, you have just rejected something. Dell Computers includes inserts in the Star newspaper daily. I have never looked at it. Still they never give up, just keep on sending, perhaps hoping that one day, I’ll read their inserts.
The power of the word of mouth marketing is something else, worthy of a whole post by itself. I just want to mention it here in passing.
What do you do when you want to buy a car? You ask a friend, of course. Not any friend, but someone whom YOU THINK is knowledgeable about cars. This is word of mouth marketing at its most fundamental level. Like I mentioned, we shall talk about this in some detail soon.
Marketing is not all fancy campaigns and glossy advertisements. It’s also the quiet word spoken by Aunty Mei who looks so fit and healthy. People listen when she tells us that it was her daily regime of green tea and Chi Qong that is responsible.
So if you have your Network (which you do, whether you realise it or not) and are convinced that you have good value to offer, you are all set to go!
Go for it, and God Willing, you shall make it!

A nice, simple and elegant definition. Yes, that is what Network Marketing or the older named Multi-Level Marketing is all about. Just these two principal activities. The pillars of the business. Networking and Marketing.
In between, of course, you have the standard ingredients of any business, i.e. a product or service that meets some compelling need, a healthy dose of hard work, a compensation plan that rewards those in the business, commitment, knowledge, persistence and determination.
The Internet has quite a number of definitions and explanations of what Networking and Network Marketing is all about. For example, this is what WiseGeek says, whilst Wikipedia has this to say about MLM.
Let’s look at the first pillar, Networking. I am quite sure all of us are pretty familiar with this term. Still it is good to look up some definitions of the term Networking. Yale University has a web page called the Beginner’s Guide to Networking where it talks about the definition, why we should network etc., etc., etc.
Yes, I agree with Yale University that Networking is all about building relationships with people. There are some finer points where I have some differences.
Like, we should build our Network with people from all walks of life, not just people with similar interests and goals.
And most importantly the first step in building our Network is providing value. I strongly believe it is not about taking value first, but rather, we take the first step in providing value.
Say for example, we visit a bank. This is something all of us must have done umpteen times. We must have met or dealt with many bank personnel in our lives. How many do we remember? I bet the ones you (and certainly I) remember would be the ones who went out of their way to help you. And mind you, bank staff are trained to be of assistance to the customers. Yet, even here, many just slip through our minds. Others remain etched permanently in our memory. Those who did good are remembered favourably and those whom we considered rude will be remembered not so favourably.
This is life and what Networking is all about.
Those bank staff who went out of their way to help, these are people you would help without hesitation. They have demonstrated the art of building a Network.
Networking is and should never be about us. It is not a me, me game. It should be a you, you game. Only when, as Dr. Steven Covey says, we have built up a strong relationship bank account, we can count on that person as part of our Network.
Initially your Network may be like this.
Networks are not built overnight. They take time to be nurtured and cultivated. However they have a characteristic of being able to grow in leaps and bounds.
All of us, knowingly or unknowingly are cultivating our Networks. Our family and extended families, the friends we had in school and University, our colleagues, both current and past, the people we have interacted with in daily life, like the grocer, the local Hypermarket cashier, the newspaper vendor etc. All are people who have the potential of being a strong link in our Network.
And come to think of it, this would already be a sizeable number.
Then comes the issue of nurturing our Network.
The biggest and strongest trees all grew from some tiny seed at one point of time. If we have ever planted one, we would have watered it and looked after it when it was small and vulnerable. Otherwise we would have planted it in a place that provided the natural support.
How strong our Network is determined by how much value and nurturing you have provided.
I am sure you’ll rather run into a friend who has always some funny joke to cheer you up, or the name of some wonderful restaurant or the location of some fabulous sale. And not one who whines and whines to you about the state of the economy, the weather and God knows what else.
Over time, your original Network comprising of the given family, school mates, varsity mates, colleagues both current and ex, grows from strength to strength.
And then the exponential growth happens!
This happens when you get connected into their Networks and the size of your Network almost doubles or triples. If you continue following the rule of providing value or even just good cheer, your Network is bound, in fact, guaranteed to grow stronger and stronger.
This is how the Network can grow exponentially!

This is when you can now be counted upon as a person to be relied upon. Someone who is liked and trusted. Someone whose opinion should be given some weight. Someone whose opinion should be sought. Someone who is an excellent resource for others.
And, congratulations, you have become a master Networker.
I am not an old hand at MLM. I am relatively new in this line of business. I do have some strengths in that I am passionate about the product because of the superlative value it has given me and my family. I am also a very strong believer in the business model of Network Marketing, which like the title says, is all about Networking and Marketing.
So in further building and strengthening my Network, I am trying to provide some value though this blog. I hope that the some of you who are kind enough to read my articles learn something and leave this blog with a good feeling. I pray that you do find some value, and share your point of view which may be opposite or not quite the same as mine.
In conclusion, I assure you that if you are a fair minded, reasonable and civic minded person, whether young or matured, you should already have a sizeable Network in place. And if looked after correctly, would only multiply in number and depth!
We shall now turn to the second pillar, Marketing.
Oh, boy, I did not expect this article to be so long. Looks like I have to stop here for the time being. We shall talk about the second pillar on the 18th, which is next Monday.

Begitulah ungkapan Mighty Bargain Hunter (MBH)
Tajuk artikel yang provokatif mungkin memberikan rasa tidak senang kepada banyak orang. Tetapi itu tujuan utama provokatif, adalah untuk menarik lebih banyak orang untuk membaca artikel.
MBH seterusnya mengatakan,
“Usahaniaga MLM adalah: usahaniaga. Mereka tidak akan berhasil banyak tanpa banyak bekerja. Tidak ada hasil pulangan tanpa rencana dan tindak susulan yang baik. Mereka tidak akan berjaya jika tidak dapat membezakan antara sekim usahaniaga yang sah dengan sekim piramid.”
Sila anda melapangkan sedikit waktu untuk membaca dan mengambil sedikit pesanan-pesanan penting dalam artikel ini. Ramai orang akan mudah berkata MLM hanya satu skim penipuan perniagaan, sebuah skim yang memberi munafaat kepada orang lain dari usaha penghasilan kita. Tidak perlu begitu. Ia hanyalah sebuah peluang usaha yang diberikan kepada kita. Kita harus berhati-hati untuk meneliti yang benar agar kita tidak ikut ke dalam skim piramid. Saya yakin anda akan menyedari bahwa tidak hanya penganjur MLM yang membuat penipuan. Ramai orang yang tertipu setiap hari. Baru-baru ini NST Online melaporkan seorang usahawan kehilangan USD100, 000 kepada penipuan warga Afrika. Walaupun penipuan seperti ini sering dilaporkan tetapi masih ada yang terjebak.
Demikian, anda memiliki dua pilihan,
- bersikap berhati-hati dan menghindari dari dikunjungi oleh pengusaha MLM, atau
- menggunakan kebijaksanaan anda, lihat peluang, pelajari produk dan perusahaan, kaji rencana perniagaannya, dan kemudian membuat keputusan anda. Dengan sedikit usaha kerja keras dan kesungguhan, anda boleh membuat pendapatan luarbiasa.
Kita akan melihat 2 pilihan ini selama untuk beberapa artikel akan datang. Tidak perlu gusar terhadap mereka yang bersikap berhati-hati. Itu untuk kebaikan mereka. Are you sure you have identified and are focussing on the one most important thing in your life?

You have done your goals. You have read all the motivational books by Tony Robbins, Zig Ziglar, Datuk Dr. Fadzilah Kamsah and others. You have done detailed plans on how you are going to achieve your goals. You have intense and passionate desire. Yet you find yourself in a rut.
And that’s the problem that most people face. You see, often many of our goals are self conflicting.
For example:
You may want to spend more time with your children or may want to travel the world. But you need to get that new promotion at the office so that you can earn enough to do so – and that means actually spending less time with your children and working longer hours to get it.
This is a dilemma, so many of us face. So what should we do?
We are advised to prioritise our goals. Identify the one thing that is most important or has the most impact and achieve that. Then we move on to the next one and so on. The issue with this approach because if you do that, you’ll invariably end up distracted by all your other desires, which are still there!
Let’s look at a more practical and workable solution.
If you very honestly look at all your goals, they are most likely to fall into the following two parts:
1. The need to make more money to be able to afford more items or a better lifestyle
2. The need for more free time to be able to pursue your interests, whatever they may be
Both these intense needs may seem counterproductive. If you remember our earlier example above, it really is the same thing all over again because the common assumption is that to make more money, you need to spend more time making that money.
All you need is to embrace an action that allows you to have both – and then devote yourself fully to it. Because you should now understand that with the right kind of action, you’re going to be getting your every desire, you should have nothing left standing in your way.
The key is to put our heart and soul and all our resources into creating a strong source of passive income.
Passive income can be created in a number of ways.
– building up a portfolio of shares / bonds from which we derive a stream of dividend income,
– building up a portfolio of properties from which we derive a stream of rental income,
– writing a song or a book and getting royalties,
etc.
All these need some very special skills or talent or significant capital.
Two other possibilities that may be often overlooked are:
– An online business or
– A Network Marketing Business
Of course, you need knowledge, some resources (far less than for the traditional methods), and lots and lots of hard work and your fair share of obstacles along the way. But then which goal comes easy?
Give them everything you got for a couple of years or so and watch your lifestyle change into the lifestyle of your dreams.

Practice makes perfect!
Tiger Woods started practicing golf since he was 9 months old!
To become a pro football player, you are advised to carry a ball wherever you go, play as much as you can, be the first to start and the last to stop.
I have known for a long time that practice makes perfect. My problem was not being able to pay the great price I would have to pay in order for my son to practice his work.
I have tried the traditional systems which have worked for so many others. I tried tuition classes and did not see any results. I tried individual tuition (having a teacher come to our house) and that, too, did not work to my satisfaction.
I made up my mind sometime in September / October 2008 (when my son was about to finish his Form 2), that during the school holidays, I’ll sit with him and go through his studies personally with him.
But then my wife found Score A!
I was sceptical, but was surprised at the results it brought out in our youngest girl, who was in Standard 3 then. So I started applying Score A on my son, who sits for PMR this year.
And I have also found a role model for him. Meet Kok Chin Chung, a 2005 PMR student of Sekolah Menengah SMK Katholik, PJ.
Chin Chung was a poor student in his Form 1. Then his parents got introduced to Score A, and his results improved in Form 2. He was top of his class in Form 3 and ended up scoring 8A’s in the PMR.
I have never met Chin Chung, just like I have never met Tiger Woods or any professional footballer. I have no reason to disbelieve the testimonial that Chin Chung’s family has authorised the Score A educational portal to highlight. You can see his report cards for Form 1, 2 and 3 as well as his PMR results slip.
The Form 1 report card is almost covered in red. Any parent’s nightmare.
The Form 2 report card shows some improvements.
In Form 3, he makes it to the top of his class!
And to his parents pride and joy, he scores 8 A’s in his PMR! Now he should be brimming with self confidence!
My son may not be the top of his class now. In fact, he has just finished revising his Form 2 work and has just started on his eTopics of the Form 3 syllabus. We have prepared a schedule where he will finish his Form 3 syllabus by mid May and then work on eAssessments for Form 3, just like he did 390 questions a day of his Form 2 work.
I have shown him Chin Chung’s report cards as well as his PMR slip. Chin Chung is like a role model for my son. God Willing, soon my son will be the role model for his two younger sisters.

Mari kita lanjutkan perbincangan pada topik yang sering dibincangkan oleh golongan yang ingin mencebur diri dalam MLM.
Pada artikel yang lalu kita telah bincangkan tentang perihal takut kepada ‘penolakan’, karena itu alasan ini sering diperkatakan. Saya akan berfikir bahwa kebanyakan orang akan mengatakan tidak! Tetapi itu jika ketika kita mengamatinya. Jika kita terlibat secara langsung, maka cara pemikiran kita akan berubah, dan perasaan takut akan beransur hilang.
Tentu saja, cara yang kami cuba untuk merekrut atau menjual kepada bakal pelanggan sangat berbeza. Berkata tidak benar, tidak santun, janji-janji yang tidak ditepati, tidak mengira luang waktu bakal pelanggan adalah rungutan yang sering didengari. Tetapi, hal ini akan berlaku sebaliknya.
Jika pendekatan kami adalah santun dan dilakukan dengan janji yang sering dipenuhi, maka kita tidak harus takut. Jika kita hanya seekor serangga, maka kita harus khuatir tentang pengaruh hubungan itu.
Jadi anda harus professional. Mempersiapkan kaedah penjualan terbaik anda yang sesuai dengan bakal pelanggan anda. Sampaikan maklumat produk dengan cara paling baik yang anda fikirkan. Jika setelah semuanya anda telah sampaikan, bakal pelanggan masih tidak tertarik, maka anda teruskan dengan bakal pelanggan yang lain. Masih ramai lagi pelanggan yang masih ada!
